The benefits of writing articles
Posted by Bullie Graphics
Hopefully most of you have heard the term 'content is king' when it comes to your website and its ability to be found in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). The plain fact is when it all bores down to it is that a website can look a million bucks with all the bells and whistles and beautiful imagery, but at the end of the day search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing really only care for content and by content I mean text. Sure there are benefits to having great images on your site as you want to make it as pleasing on the eye for your visitors, but in all seriousness it's the text based content which gets your site ranking in these result pages.
One thing we are continually asked when launching new sites is "when will my site be on page one of Google?" well if we had a crystal ball we could probably tell you, but unfortunately we don't (but secretly wish we did). What we do know however is that regular information posting and text additions to your website or blog will almost certainly increase your chances of ranking in these result pages.
So how do we achieve this? I hear you ask, well several years ago when we first started developing our own search engine optimisation campaign, we spend many dollars and hours on purchasing and reading valuable information from SEO Pioneers who had a proven track record in getting websites ranking in Google etc. All concurred that writing interesting and informative articles relating to your business, industry or field of expertise significantly increases your chances of ranking in search engine result pages.
So what is an article and how do I write one?
Well simply put, an article is a piece of well written text, that is informative and engaging to your visitors and generally includes keywords and links to pages within your site relative to the topic you are covering.
The benefits of writing and including articles in your own website or blog are quite simple in that the more content you include in your website with relative keywords, the more chances you have of jumping up the queue and to the all important first page of Google.
What if I'm not a good writer?
Not everyone is blessed with the gift of the pen or keyboard in this case, but don't despair there are many excellent copywriting services available who work in conjunction with you help get your message across and simplify things by adding this all important content in the form of articles ready for you to post to your website or blog. For example our friends @ Brutal Pixie (http://brutalpixie.com/) content write for many large and small scale organisations and websites and can easily produce quality copy ready for you to use. Why limit your possibilities....?

One important aspect of Search Engine Optmisation and Social Media Marketing is getting your business name out to the masses. What better way than utlising the plethora of free social media services like twitter, facebook and tumblr, which provide an invaluable source of information sharing and link posting to fans, followers and readers alike.
So in saying that we find it strange and sometimes puzzling why some businesses choose to opt out of using these services. Maybe it’s the fear of all this sudden increased exposure they may actually “get busy”, I know I’m being cynical here but WHY LIMITED YOURSELF?

twitter security updates

twitter announces new security updates
Over the coming weeks, twitter will be making two important updates that will impact how you interact with Twitter applications.
New Authorisation Rules
Starting August 31, all applications will be required to use “OAuth” to access your Twitter account, rather than your password. This means that applications are no longer allowed to store your password and apps continue to run even if you change your password.
All applications you have authorized will be listed at http://twitter.com/settings/connections and you can revoke access to any application at any time from the list.
t.co URL shortening
Twitters new link wrapping service t.co, which wraps links in Tweets with a new, simplified link is due for roll out in coming weeks. This new service simplifies your links and uses your actual domain as part of the link so it’s easier to identify. All links are then passed through twitter service and checked for mailware before sending, which is being reported as instantaneous.

Using Your Smart Phone to Promote Your Business
Posted by Bullie Graphics
Sometimes in business it’s just as good to give as it is to receive, a novel concept I know, but with clever social networking marketing tools you and your clients can create an online presence for your brand and products.
So this week we have been trialling the iPhone app foursquare, which aims to encourage people to explore their neighborhoods and then reward them for doing so. As a business owner you can run specials when users ‘check in’ to your business which are discounts and prizes for your loyal customers.
The foursquare app integrates with both Facebook and Twitter posting a status update from the business and location you have checked into.
So how can this help my business?
Well if you are like one of the over 800,000 iPhone users or on the fast growing list of Blackberry users in Australia, you can use your Smart Phone as portable network marketing device to promote your partners, business associates, suppliers and trusted clients by adding a comment or recommendation about their business every time you check in.
Now to make this work for your business, you should inform your clients how you are marketing their business and suggest they use the foursquare app. That way when they visit your office and check in they can return the favour.
One of the keys to social media marketing is promotion and knowledge of your brand and products, so with a little bit of cooperative work between you and your clients, you can assist each other in driving your businesses forward.

Google's advise on privacy...change your name
Posted by Bullie Graphics
So Google’s boss Eric Schmidt solution to privacy on the internet is to “change your name”, amid concern about plans to commercialise its ever-increasing pile of data.
So I’m guessing in the future we may not know exactly who anyone is through fear of something scandalous being found out about our past…..
All we can suggest is to use the web wisely and maybe those pix of you looking hot in your bathing suit or god forbid your birthday suit are better off left ‘for your eyes only’

twitter #followfriday lets give it some meaning....
Posted by Bullie Graphics
I must admit Follow Friday’s, #followfriday or #FF are great, don’t get me wrong, but week after week I see the same mind numbingly boring tweet recommendations done because it now seems ‘obligatory’ to do so.
Personally I think Follow Fridays are important on Twitter, in that it helps you and your followers connect to interesting and engaging people and businesses, that you may not have discovered yourself.
Look I’m not saying lets scrap the Follow Fridays at all, in fact I think we should embrace them and start looking at ways to improve your follow tweets. The day of the mass follow still has its place, but I am suggesting making personalised #FollowFriday tweets for your most valued twitter user.
When we want to get more users to follow our clients who use twitter we give the potential followers a ‘heads up’ if you like so at least they know why we are recommending them, so with that in mind here are a few examples how it works…
Example 1 - Mention what the company sells/produces
#FF our good friends @skof for exceptional quality Australian made Office Furniture and Office Chairs
Example 2 - Specify why they should follow this user
#FollowFriday @hatzijewels awesome information about Diamond Engagement and Wedding Ring care and cleaning
Example 3 - A personal recommendation
#FF some our best customers and people you can trust @sydneycars @tevansracing @lajollavr we totally recommend
why a website is essential for attracting potential customers
Posted by Bullie Graphics
When meeting with clients to discuss their need to have an accurate online representation, I find myself continually using the same brief analogy in why a website is essential for attracting potential customers.
“Visitors to your website want a good understanding of your business services and products before contacting you and the easiest way to achieve this is with a successful website.”
A potential client is more likely to contact you having knowledge of your core services, so as to even out the playing field of understanding so to speak.
So far in recent cases my clients have agreed with me.
